Razer Blade Stealth
Razer refreshed its Blade Stealth Ultrabook last year by upgrading the old 12.5-inch screen to a 13.3-inch offering while reducing the size of the bezels. To nobody's surprise, however, the system launched at a price point hundreds of dollars more than competing Ultrabooks like the XPS 13 or Spectre 13 that often start at just under $1000. Now almost a year later, the manufacturer is ready to slash the price off its premier Ultrabook by quite the large margin.
For just this weekend, the Blade Stealth will retail for $900 USD through the official Razer online store. When considering its 3200 x 1800 resolution touchscreen, 16 GB of RAM, Thunderbolt 3 port, and per-key RGB lighting, the temporary asking price is actually not bad. The aforementioned Dell and HP alternatives have lower resolution non-touchscreen panels, less RAM, potentially less storage, and definitely no per-key RGB lighting when configured at a similar price range of under $1000.
There is one significant catch about the deal. Razer is only cutting the price off its last generation Intel 7th gen Core i7-7500U SKU whereas the current Intel 8th gen Core i7-8550U SKU is still at $1400 USD. Jumping from the i7-7500U to the i7-8550U can bring up to 40 to 50 percent more performance because of the doubling of physical cores. It's obvious that the manufacturer is simply clearing stock of its older and slower configuration.
Gamers who want to use the Razer Core with the Blade Stealth should consider the i7-8550U SKU instead. The significantly faster CPU performance will be less of a bottleneck to the external graphics dock when gaming.
